Does Adempiere 3.5.4 need pl/java? I followed the instructions here and RUN_setup.sh failed with:

org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: ERROR: relation "ad_system" does not exist

pl/java is not required for Adempiere 3.5.4 
Try importing the database by running:
cd /u01/Adempiere/utils
./RUN_ImportAdempiere.sh
